| The Iban people of Borneo are famous for their basketry. Thisvery finely plaited wedding basket(sintang menarang) is made from rattan. The dark color is from soaking the rattan in ash or soot and burying in jungle mud for a period of time. The red color is from the fruit of the rattan plant which is boiled and applied as a paste, or may be from a dye made from the roots of the morinder citrofolia shrub. The rims were usually made by men. Rice seed were placed in them during planting time. 7" diameter x 8" tall |
